Application Services Consultant

Role Overview

A Consultant role is the operational subject-matter expert for a portfolio of business-critical applications, ensuring they stay stable, secure and compliant while continuously improving supporting processes, automation and tooling.

The role combines hands-on technical work, incident leadership, change management and strategic client consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of application operations: monitor application health across environments, lead incident response (triage, root-cause analysis, communication, post-incident review), and coordinate changes/releases including patching, upgrades and migrations - often outside regular business hours.
• Drive proactive maintenance: health-checks, vulnerability scanning, certificate management, capacity planning, up-to-date documentation/run-books, and and knowledge base articles must be kept up to date.
• Follow ITIL-aligned, Agile processes for incident, problem, change and configuration management, ensuring compliance in regulated sectors like life-science and banking; drive continuous improvement in processes, metrics and automation.
• Develop and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and orchestration workflows to cut manual effort, evaluate monitoring/observability tools, and support the team's shift-left strategy.
• Act as technical liaison for clients - translating business needs into operational actions and advising on architecture and future-state roadmaps.
• Participation in an on‑call rotation (approximately one shift per month) guarantees 24 × 7 coverage.
• Collaborate daily with peers across the Czech Republic, Denmark and the Philippines, and mentor junior consultants to foster shared ownership and excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; at least 4 years' experience in operations, support or service delivery for business-critical applications, including 1+ year in a senior or consultancy role.
• Strong background with enterprise applications and solid understanding of Windows and Linux/Unix environments; proficiency with monitoring, log analysis and incident-management tools; working knowledge of PowerShell, Bash or Python (or a clear plan to reach proficiency within six months).
• Experience with middleware (Apache Tomcat, WebLogic, IBM MQ) and SQL databases is a plus.
• Practical experience with ITIL-aligned service management; ITIL 4 Managing Professional or Expert certification is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal English, with the ability to document clearly and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

• Direct experience in regulated sectors (life-science, banking, finance) is highly valued, as is exposure to cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure.
• Prior experience in a Technical Application Management (TAM) or similar service model is an advantage.
